The Bread Of Life: Who Is Luke?
Inasmuch as many have taken in hand to set in order a narrative of those things which have been fulfilled among us, just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the Word delivered them to us, it seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write to you an orderly account, most excellent Theophilus, that you may know the certainty of those things in which you were instructed.
Luke 1:1-4 (NKJV)
We don't know Theophilus, 'Friend of God,’ but most Bible scholars believe Luke was a Greek physician: an accomplished man who traveled with Paul, a God-inspired documentarian. Consider what one historian notes:
' 'Having had perfect understanding' ...The literal translation of the original here would be, 'having exactly traced everything from the first,' or, 'having, by diligent and careful investigation, 'followed up' everything to the 'source,' to obtain an accurate account of the matter'... Luke did not profess to have seen these things, and this expression is designed to show how he acquired his information. It was by 'tracing up' every account until he became satisfied of its truth' (Barnes' Notes on the Bible).
Therein, Luke is believed to have written a prayerful and confirming summary of our King’s life, death, and resurrection. He also wrote the mighty Book of Acts.
Actors, models, and talent for Christ: you and I are wise to follow Luke’s example: to seek the Truth of God DILIGENTLY, so we can know and show our Leader’s Life, especially the fullness of His love…
Because too many self-ordained Christians have MISREPRESENTED Christ to the world!
The Bread Of Life: Who Is Luke? (Part 2)
* Theophilus, the name, is translated as ‘Friend of God’ in Greek translation. We can assume he was exactly that.

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
