Mobile Technology: The Work Of Our Hands

They provoked Him to anger with their inventions... And they served their idols: which were a snare unto them. Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto devils... Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own inventions. Therefore, was the wrath of the Lord kindled against His people, insomuch that He abhorred His Own inheritance. And He gave them into the hand of the heathen; and they that hated them, ruled over them.

Psalm 106:29, 36-41 (KJV)

Their land is also full of idols; They worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made.

Isaiah 2:8 (NKJV)

So I gave them over to the stubbornness of their heart, to walk in their own devices.

Psalm 81:12 (NASB)

Could earth’s modern mobile technology be called man’s inventions and devices? The inventions of ingenious minds? The devices in our curious hands?

Did our Lord envision this explosion of portable media in His Word? Without a doubt, YES!

'Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite' (Psalm 147:5); 'Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, 'My counsel shall stand' ' (Isaiah 46:10).

Truly, our 21st-century world bears an uncomfortable resemblance to our Living Savior’s ancient Scripture.

Consider some facts:*

  1. 90% of earth’s people have phones, specifically, portable cell phones.

  2. 347 billion emails are sent daily. 18.7 billion texts are sent/received daily. Facebook has 2.93 billion users. Insta has 2 billion+.

  3. The average U.S. teen spends 7 hours and 22 minutes per day on his phone.

'Hold them guilty, O God; By their own devices let them fall! In the multitude of their transgressions thrust them out, for they are rebellious against You' (Psalm 5:10).

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
