Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave it to the wrath of God, for it is written, “Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord.”

Romans 12:19 (ESV)

do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear Him Who can destroy both soul and body in hell.

Matthew 10:28 (ESV)

For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but have divine power to destroy strongholds.

2 Corinthians 10:4 (ESV)

Jesus said to him, “Put your sword in its place, for all who take the sword will perish by the sword.”

Matthew 26:52 (NKJV)

I don't love guns, but many people do. Some build “arsenals”.

But why is this fascination with guns a uniquely American anthem? Is it…

  • Our “Revolutionary War” mindset?

  • The violence highlighted by our news?

  • The blood, guts, and glory of old westerns?

  • The fear of being “cornered” defenseless?

  • Have guns been “branded” in our consciousness?

NOTE: America has 57 times as many school shootings as ALL the world’s other most developed nations combined.*

BUT MORE TO THE POINT:
How does any of this relate to Christ, His example, or instructions to us? The world has the excuse of ignorance. What’s our excuse for acting like the world? Or fearing all the “stuff” that the world fears?

Here's how I see our gun-love obsession:

  • When interest becomes fascination,

  • When reasonable becomes stockpiling,

  • When self-defense becomes paranoia,

  • When standing strong becomes hostility,

  • When private arms become assault weapons,

  • When congressmen are “bought” by lobbyists,

  • When the NRA becomes an altar,

  • When common sense bows to fanaticism,

  • When mental health problems are brushed aside,

  • When loners become make-believe soldiers...

Unstable people turn into shooters.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

What does this problem have to do with you? You’re called to be leaders and role models! Therefore…

Think biblically and practically. Lead in godliness, confidence, and peace.

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God! We’re all called to be actors (action stars) for Jesus. We’re all called to be models of Jesus. We all have gifts, talents, and a commission to multiply them in the world for His glory.

P.S. NO DEVOTION, PREACHER, or SERMON… can begin to replace personal time in the Bible. I wholeheartedly and clear-headedly recommend DAILY BIBLE READING.

WARNING: Don’t focus on your favorite verses, because taken out of context, they’re often misinterpreted. I plead with you to READ AT LEAST 1 BIBLE CHAPTER DAILY. How long does it take? An average of 5 to 10 minutes!
