Hot Topics: Drugs, Opioids

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

1 Peter 5:6 (NIV)

The Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

2 Thessalonians 3:3 (NIV)

What bondage is worse than drug addiction? Maybe only actual slavery. In both, people are cruelly entrapped and forced to do unconscionable things.

What gets me about the opioid jail is that licensed doctors first opened it. Too thoughtlessly, they prescribed a death trap: either death to the life addicts once knew... or a literal departure from earth.

SIDEBAR: Before good doctors get angry, please know: I was married to a family doc. I get the time pressure most of them face. Also… I’ve been close to those with gut-wrenching pain from gnawing injuries and illnesses, who DID get locked in opioid prison.*

Additional victims of opioid chains are the reckless or naive “partiers”, who take a hit (or get fooled into it) and end up behind the same drug-bound bars. Addiction hooks people without bias, even those from the ‘finest” families.

What does this mean to church-going Christians, walking closely with THE Freedom Fighter, trying to steer clear of all hooks that bind, spiritually and physically…?

  • Be informed, be caring, and don’t condemn those so unconscionably imprisoned. Instead, pray for them continually. Offer comfort to their grieving loved ones.

  • Be vigilant with your own prescriptions and follow the orders of good doctors. Do research and question all painkillers. Take everything to the Lord in prayer.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

In your big role as Christ’s ambassadors, walking the massive fields of media, you’ll be among a larger “slice of life” than church-bound Christians with blinders on.

Your awareness of this red-hot topic is crucial for yourself and all your fans.

* Good news: This family member is now unhooked and has rebuilt a stable, productive life.

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God! We’re all called to be actors (action stars) for Jesus. We’re all called to be models of Jesus. We all have gifts, talents, and a commission to multiply them in the world for His glory.

P.S. NO DEVOTION, PREACHER, or SERMON… can begin to replace personal time in the Bible. I wholeheartedly and clear-headedly recommend DAILY BIBLE READING.

WARNING: Don’t focus on your favorite verses, because taken out of context, they’re often misinterpreted. I plead with you to READ AT LEAST 1 BIBLE CHAPTER DAILY. How long does it take? An average of 5 to 10 minutes!
