Love... Is A Husband's Directive

Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her…

Ephesians 5:25 (NKJV)

Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.

Colossians 3:19 (NLT)

When my husband left (after 30 years), I was brought down low enough to look up. At the age of 51, I found Christ! (In hindsight, it was a divine exchange.)

Could this life-transforming relationship have started differently? I don't know. But I progressed from self-righteous anger… to realizing things I had done wrong.

In my shallow defense, I didn't know God's directives for a happy marriage. When I learned, our split began to make sense.

  • The Lord says wives should respect their husbands.

  • Husbands should LOVE their wives… as Christ loves us.

The reasons for God's varying orders aren’t to demean women and upgrade men, but to go straight to the heart of the need. Men thrive on respect. Women thrive on love.

Wives need to know that they’re truly cherished, which is seen by a husband’s sacrifice.

Sacrifice of what? Lesser, selfish things– up to and including… even his life. Wow! A life doesn’t seem like a lesser thing. But after loving and following Christ, his wife's welfare is of prime importance.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

What does all this mean, if you’re not married, or in terms of your calling to perform? You’ll have an enlightened understanding of the human heart and relationships…

Because performing is storytelling: bringing light to the mysteries of life, while relieving the stress of ignorance.

Love… Is A Husband’s Directive (Part 46)

* NOTE: Any form of abuse is different. Women can and should help right away.

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God! We’re all called to be actors (action stars) for Jesus. We’re all called to be models of Jesus. We all have gifts, talents, and a commission to multiply them in the world for His glory.

P.S. NO DEVOTION, PREACHER, or SERMON… can begin to replace personal time in the Bible. I wholeheartedly and clear-headedly recommend DAILY BIBLE READING.

WARNING: Don’t focus on your favorite verses, because taken out of context, they’re often misinterpreted. I plead with you to READ AT LEAST 1 BIBLE CHAPTER DAILY. How long does it take? An average of 5 to 10 minutes!
