Personal Pronouns: He, Him, His

Then Moses said to God, 'Indeed, when I come to the children of Israel and say to them, 'The God of your fathers has sent me to you,' and they say to me, 'What is His name?' what shall I say to them?'

And God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM.' And He said, 'Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, 'I AM has sent me to you.' Moreover, God said to Moses, 'Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: 'The Lord God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you. This is My Name forever, and this is My memorial to all generations.' '

Exodus 3:13-15 (NKJV)

In the Book of books, names are descriptive. God's Name is so holy and exalted that our minds and mouths cannot contain It.* So He gives us more than one Name for Himself… that we, followers of His Son, can glimpse different aspects of His majesty.

As noted servants of our 'Sovereign Lord' (2 Samuel 7:28), we get benefits, 'For our citizenship is in Heaven' (Philippians 3:20). Since our great Lord is also our Father, so we get even greater benefits.

But to realize the privileges of 'Children of God... and joint heirs with Christ' (Romans 8:16-17), we must concentrate on He, Him, and His, in opposition to I, me, and my.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ: Refrain from common acts of narcissism. Resist common American idols. Reject common cultural selfishness. How?

  • Give instead of get. Pray instead of pout. Help other people and put yourself last.

  • Read the Word daily, before tweets and posts. God’s news lifts you up. Man’s news pulls you down.

  • Clean up your image. Clean out our closet. Talk about God's work, instead of your own.

  • Forget your high heels. Think of His sandals: those no one on earth was worthy to strap.

Don’t think of yourself so much. Think of Him!

'At the Name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in Heaven and on earth and under the earth' (Philippians 2:10). 'If you ask anything in My Name, I will do it' (John 14:14). 'The Name of the Lord is a Strong Tower; the righteous run to It and are safe' (Proverbs 18:10).

'He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His Name's sake' (Psalm 23:3). 'And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My Name's sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life' (Matthew 19:29).

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
