Leadership: True Team Spirit
The Helper, the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My Name, He will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
John 14:26 (ESV)
If faith without works is merely pretense, if trees without fruit aren’t useful to God, then humble words without humble actions…
Are like puffed-up players with no training– destined for release (without improvement).
Only when we lose our arrogant airs will God fill us with His Holy Spirit.
Only when we give up personal goals will our Captain trust us to run the ball.
Increasingly, I’m spurred to remember an easy-to-forget biblical truth: Joining Team Jesus (surrender to Christ) is not a one-time, take-the-plunge contract.
Like joining any team, it's a process, requiring daily, ongoing practice: strong efforts of sacrifice and service.
'If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me' (Luke 9:23).
Let’s take a peek at Team America:
Have we grown comfortable and cozy, playing in our churchyards, but not the world?
Are we focused on accumulating, biting Satan’s hooks called “worldly success”?
Are we hurling insults at other teams, forgetting our roles as ambassadors?
Do we affirm each other’s minds and hearts, smug in the Sunday game we think we’ve won?
Jesus WON BIG (with a team of losers)! Jews who WERE on top proved to be DEAD WRONG. He announced God’s cut early in His tour: 'I have not come to call the righteous' (Luke 5:32).
Millennia later, play continues.
Actors, models, and talent for Christ:
Your duty is to follow your Captain into the massive fields of media. Therefore, read His Instruction Book daily! Consider some features and commandments:
Your uniform has a cross on the back (It’s not a shiny piece of jewelry.)
Your team’s marching song is HUMILITY. It’s upbeat, happy, and relatable.
Your code of conduct is serving others. Remember, this was your Captain’s lifestyle.
You WILL become a star player for God. Some of your fans will become players, too!
Leadership: Good Team Spirit (Part 13)
NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God! We’re ALL called to be actors (action stars) for Jesus. We’re ALL called to models of Jesus, and we ALL have gifts, talents, and callings from God– to multiply them in the world for His glory.
P.S. NO DEVOTION, PREACHER, or SERMON… can begin to replace personal time in the Bible. I wholeheartedly and clear-headedly recommend READING THE BIBLE DAILY.
WARNING: Don’t focus on favorite verses, because out of context, they’re often misinterpreted. I plead with you to READ AT LEAST 1 BIBLE CHAPTER DAILY. How long does it take? An average of 5 to 10 minutes!
