Everyday Heroes: Homemakers
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will abide in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress, my God, in Whom I trust.”
Psalm 91:1-2 (ESV)
The Lord's curse is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the dwelling of the righteous.
Proverbs 3:3 (ESV)
If anyone loves Me, he will keep My Word, and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.
John 14:23 (ESV)
Everyday heroes are God’s homemakers. A homemaker is 'one who manages a household' (American Heritage Dictionary), but here’s a literal definition: one who MAKES a home–specifically a place of rest, peace, nourishment, and love.
What kind of home? A warm, welcoming home.
What kind of maker? The heavenly kind: a person of God. If we, as homemakers, open to Him, then He, as The Light, makes us radiant. ‘Those who look to him are radiant’ (Psalm 34:5).
Jesus says it in the simplest of words: 'Abide in Me' (John 15:4); 'Abide in My love' (John 15:9).
If we abide in the Spirit of Christ, we carry our home wherever we go! God’s lost sheep will be attracted to us…
Like victims toward safety,
Like the homeless to shelter,
Like the hungry to a feast,
Like the weary to respite,
Like the unwanted to love!
Consider David:
As a little boy, he lived with his family in a house.
As a good shepherd, he lived with lambs and sheep in green pastures.
As a musician, he lived with royalty in a palace;
As a warrior, he lived with soldiers in fields near and far.
As a fugitive, he lived alone in caves (at least at first).
But the love of God lived in David's heart, and that cave began to look like the Ritz! He attracted followers even there. His future team for his coming kingship took root and grew everywhere David went.
Right now, Jesus prepares our utmost Home: 'In My Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you' (John 14:2).
Until that Day, we’re told to make the best of all circumstances, even hard ones. 'Be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you' ' (Hebrews 13:5).
God has a plan for every place we are, and every place we are can be a home!
To all humble, welcoming homemakers, kudos to you as Christ’s unsung heroes! Because He, Himself, is a Homemaker, you're in the grandest Company of all. 'The tent of the upright will flourish' (Proverbs 14:11).

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God! We’re ALL called to be actors (action stars) for Jesus. We’re ALL called to models of Jesus, and we ALL have gifts, talents, and callings from God– to multiply them in the world for His glory.
P.S. NO DEVOTION, PREACHER, or SERMON… can begin to replace personal time in the Bible. I wholeheartedly and clear-headedly recommend READING THE BIBLE DAILY.
WARNING: Don’t focus on favorite verses, because out of context, they’re often misinterpreted. I plead with you to READ AT LEAST 1 BIBLE CHAPTER DAILY. How long does it take? An average of 5 to 10 minutes
