Everyday Heroes: Yea-Sayers

All of God’s promises have been fulfilled in Christ with a resounding “Yes!” And through Christ, our “Amen” (which means “Yes”) ascends to God for his glory.

2 Corinthians 1:20 (NLT)

Everyday heroes are lights in the crowd, and they choose to act uncommonly good, when everyone else looks the other way.

They choose to live their lives as yeasayers. A 'yeasayer' is 'one who is confidently affirmative in attitude; one who uncritically agrees' (American Heritage Dictionary).

Agrees to what?

  • Anything he'd rather not do, but should.

  • Anything he dreads or fears, but shouldn't.

  • Anything that’s helpful, but difficult.

  • Anything that's hard, but necessary.

  • Anything that God says to do. Period.

Such as?

  • Getting up early,

  • Visiting the sick,

  • Defending the weak,

  • Pushing back Satan,

  • Exposing bullies,

  • Obeying parents,

  • Forsaking comforts,

  • Or siding with God.

Didn't Jesus say YES! to all these things? Undoubtedly, we worship a YES! God.

Consider Caleb:

Early in the Jews’ Exodus journey, Moses commissioned twelve tribal leaders, ‘To spy out the land of Canaan' (Numbers 13:17): the wondrous land promised to them by God.

After returning from their spy mission, ten leaders said, 'No way. Too dangerous!' But two said, 'Yes!': Joshua and Caleb.

'Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, 'Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it.' But the men who had gone up with him said, 'We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we.' And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land' (Numbers 13:30-32).

The result? A 40-year roundabout: 40 years of wandering and growing–until every single naysayer died, and a new group of yeasayers matured.

Only then did the Jews cross the Jordan, to a 'Land flowing with milk and honey' (Exodus 3:8).

Consider Peter:

When he first met Jesus, Peter was tired from an unsuccessful night of fishing. Jesus asked him to go fishing AGAIN.

'Simon answered and said to Him, 'Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless, at Your Word I will let down the net.' And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking' (Luke 5:5-6).

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:
Your take-home message?

'Do all things without complaining and disputing, that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world' (Philippians 2:14-15).

One more thing:

The word “Amen” basically means YES! Being a yeasayer is a requirement for godly success.

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God! We’re ALL called to be actors (action stars) for Jesus. We’re ALL called to models of Jesus, and we ALL have gifts, talents, and callings from God–  to multiply them in the world for His glory.

P.S. NO DEVOTION, PREACHER, or SERMON… can begin to replace personal time in the Bible. I wholeheartedly and clear-headedly recommend READING THE BIBLE DAILY.

WARNING: Don’t focus on favorite verses, because out of context, they’re often misinterpreted. I plead with you to READ AT LEAST 1 BIBLE CHAPTER DAILY. How long does it take? An average of 5 to 10 minutes!
