Love… Is NOT Grandstanding
If I must boast, I will boast of the things that show my weakness.
2 Corinthians 11:30 (ESV)
God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.
1 Corinthians 1:27 (NIV)
Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
Matthew 5:5 (NIV)
God's chosen prophets lived difficult lives, sharing hard news to hard-hearted people. Even good news had strict terms of service. What an incredibly challenging job!
No wonder Moses and Jeremiah initially tried to say “No thank-you!”
God's most renowned scholars live humble lives, realizing their inadequacy to grasp the Mind and scope of their Master. What a wondrously mysterious job!
No wonder Nicodemus and Saul (Paul) confessed to Christ their utter confusion.
God’s action stars live self-questioning lives, recognizing their insufficiency to rise as His leaders and warriors. What a trail-blazing, fear-denying job.
No wonder Joshua, David, Peter, and honest Christians confess their weakness.
God's mountain movers live tenacious lives, pushing their way through wheelbarrows of doubt to reach the wondrous realm of miracles. What an arduous, persevering job!
No wonder Jesus chose to wait on John's opening act before taking the stage.
Actors, models, and talent for Christ:
Beware modern saints who grandstand their gifts of prophecy, knowledge, scripture, or faith.
Compare them to heroes of the Bible.
Compare their visible humility.
Compare their sacrifices of comfort.
Most of all, compare their love in action. Is it built on acts of helping others WITHOUT calling attention to themselves?
Because grandstanding is not our King’s way: the Man Who refused every worldly crown never forgot the power in prayer. He made His grandest stand on Calvary.
Love… Is NOT Grandstanding (Part 8)
NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God! We’re all called to be actors (action stars) for Jesus. We’re all called to models of Jesus, and we all have gifts, talents, and a commission to multiply them in the world for His glory.
P.S. NO DEVOTION, PREACHER, or SERMON… can begin to replace personal time in the Bible. I wholeheartedly and clear-headedly recommend DAILY BIBLE READING.
WARNING: Don’t focus on your favorite verses, because taken out of context, they’re often misinterpreted. I plead with you to READ AT LEAST 1 BIBLE CHAPTER DAILY. How long does it take? An average of 5 to 10 minutes!
