Images: Crafting An Image

Moses said to the Israelites, ‘See, the Lord has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills— to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic crafts. And he has given both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach others. He has filled them with skill to do all kinds of work as engravers, designers, embroiderers in blue, purple and scarlet yarn and fine linen, and weavers—all of them skilled workers and designers.’

So Bezalel, Oholiab and every skilled person to whom the Lord has given skill and ability to know how to carry out all the work of constructing the sanctuary are to do the work just as the Lord has commanded.

Exodus 35:30-36 - Exodus 36:1 (NIV)

The Bible employed image departments. Each age was staffed by artists and craftsmen: designers, metalsmiths, sculptors, builders, painters, carpenters, weavers and workmen.

  • God 'Filled them with skill to do all kinds of work' (Exodus 35:35).

Hollywood employs image departments, currently staffed by artists and craftsmen: designers, builders, stylists, costumers, and teams of special effects technicians.

  • 'A man's gift makes room for him, and brings him before great men' (Proverbs 18:16).

Celebrities have image consultants: specialists in crafting appearances to attract lots of fans (and their money).

  • For women, Barbie’s been a top model, but now shares the stage with all kinds of “dolls” – representing greater diversity.

  • For men, Ken and GI Joe stand together, to form a warrior king, like David, who was also an entertainer!

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

God is the First and Ultimate Artist. Jesus is the First and Master Craftsman. Creating and building is what They do. It's precisely what YOU need to do, too:

  1. Perfecting your art as a performer,

  2. Crafting an irresistible image,

  3. Mastering the job’s qualifications,

  4. Copying the preeminent Model,

  5. Walking how He walks, loving like He loves,

  6. Attracting lonely fans with star-struck eyes,

  7. Pointing the way to the ultimate Star!

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
