Dream Haters: Religious Reasoners

Lord, my heart is not haughty, nor my eyes lofty. Neither do I concern myself with great matters, nor with things too profound for me.

Psalm 131:1 (NKJV)

You asked, ‘Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?” Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.

Job 42:3 (NIV)

The wisdom of this world is foolishness to God. As the Scriptures say, “He traps the wise in the snare of their own cleverness.”

1 Corinthians 3:19 (NLT)

Few Bible heroes had it worse than Job. In the midst of an exemplary life, Job lost his family, fortune, and health. Three friends came to visit and mourn with him;

'They set out from their homes and met together by agreement to go and sympathize with him and comfort him' (Job 2:11).

For a week, they sat with him in silence. But the strong temptation to analyze Job's disasters seemed irresistible. Why did they happen? Was it punishment?

They yielded to religious reasoning, and their old friend’s misery was deepened:

'I am one mocked by his friends' (Job 12:4).

Enter stage right like a breath of fresh air… was a godly young man named Elihu. He witnessed the fault-finding of Job's friends, and…

'His wrath was aroused, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job' (Job 32:3).

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

Religious reasoning tempts believers, especially those who think themselves “smart”. They did well in school. They “earned” high degrees. But God reminds us:

'As the Heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My Thoughts than your thoughts' (Isaiah 55:9).

Oh how easily and “logically” we (Christians) forget our limitations, and ask…

  • “Why did this happen?”

  • “This doesn’t make sense!”

  • “Let’s figure it out.”

We fill our minds with everything but faith!

Here's the thing:

Nobody but God sees the whole picture: All the causes and effects we can’t see; the mental, physical, and spiritual circumstances woven into the fabric of our lives!

We can’t know all the past complexities, nor all the future possibilities.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

Don’t tie up your thoughts in the endless loop… of trying to figure out God’s business.

Don’t bow down to religious reasoning. Only bow to God– and become unreasonably faithful!

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
