The Call To Overcome: Meaning?

In the world, you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.

John 16:33 (ESV)

  • To overcome is 'to overpower or overwhelm.' (Webster's New World Dictionary)

  • To overcome is 'to defeat another in competition.' (American Heritage Dictionary)

  • To overcome is 'to surmount obstacles and objections.’ (Collins English Dictionary)

  • To overcome is 'to prevail despite adversity.' (YourDictionary.com)

  • To overcome is 'to gain the victory.' (Random House Dictionary)

Without a doubt, we live in evil times. Without faith, we’re too weak to overcome them.

Because without faith, 'It is impossible to please God' (Hebrews 11:6). Will an unpleased God regard our prayers? I don’t know, but it’s a risk I don’t want.

Because without our Father’s TLC, we’re exposed! We’re naked and powerless!

Because when we walk naked on the inside, how we look on the outside means nothing.

  • No matter how beautiful or wealthy.

  • No matter how others bow before us…

  • We’re WHAM-BAM-SLAM wide open to attack.

Because without faith, we’re easy prey for 'Beelzebub, ruler of the demons' (Matthew 12:24). NOTE: Beelzebub is translated as ‘Lord of the flies.’ *

But…

Can grown-up people be reduced to flies? Can we be reduced to defenseless prey? Could we become targets waiting to fall?

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

As Spirit-filled believers in Jesus, faith is your foundation to overcome: to overpower, overwhelm, defeat, surmount, prevail, and gain the victory!

For yourself? No! Jesus prevailed for YOU! Just BELIEVE it and act accordingly. You’re charging the gates of hell for others!

The Call To Overcome: Meaning? (Part 1)

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.

* Beelzebub is from the Hebrew word, ba'al-z'bub, meaning 'lord of the flies' (Etymology Dictionary)
