Christian Pitfalls: Lack Of Relevance
For though I am free from all men, I have made myself a servant to all, that I might win the more; and to the Jews, I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to those who are under the law, as under the law, that I might win those who are under the law; to those who are without law, as without law (not being without law toward God, but under law toward Christ), that I might win those who are without law; to the weak I became as weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all things to all men, that I might by all means save some.
1 Corinthians 9:19-22 (NKJV)
I try to find common ground with everyone…
1 Corinthians 9:22 (NLT)
I respect the NLT translation of 1 Corinthians 9:22. It shows Paul’s evangelism strategy: He found COMMON GROUND to talk about Christ– in words and ways his audience could get.
Definitions of relevant include:
“Appropriate to the current time, period, or circumstances; of contemporary interest.” (Oxford Dictionary)
“Important to the matter at hand. Artists and politicians are always worried about their relevance.” (Vocabulary.com)
One of the greatest concerns of my life is how IRRELEVANT most Christians seem… to the vast majority of people and nations, including America:(
For the first time in U.S. history, “none” has become our faith majority!
College-age believers raised in the church“– are LEAVING the church in record numbers.
Why?
Google the subject and read for yourself… but they believe the church LACKS RELEVANCE.
The way they see it?
Christians are so busy judging the world and protesting their least favorite sins... that they seem to stem from a god of hate!
But Jesus is the exact opposite… and He’s been grossly misrepresented!
Actors, models, and talent for Christ:
You know all of this, and it’s why you’re here. You know you need cultural relevance. Remain encouraged!
Your presence in media is CRUCIAL! So hang in there, deny the hypocrites, and represent Christ in ways people get, which (as you also know) means SHOWING LOVE!
Christian Pitfalls: Ignoring Culture (Part 65)
NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
