Christian Pitfalls: Big Talk
Goliath walked out toward David with his shield bearer ahead of him, sneering in contempt at this ruddy-faced boy. “Am I a dog,” he roared at David, “that you come at me with a stick?” And he cursed David by the names of his gods. “Come over here, and I’ll give your flesh to the birds and wild animals!” Goliath yelled.
1 Samuel 17:41-44 (NLT)
A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.
Proverbs 18:7 (NKJV)
Big talk is a rich man flaunting dollars.
Big talk is a salesman with a quota.
Big talk is a buy-my-stuff commercial.
Big talk is a bully in a schoolyard.
Big talk is a wimp seeking approval.
Big talk is a puffed-up politician.
Big talk is a spin-the-tale publicist.
Big talk is a hater seeking groupies.
Big talk is a disconnected preacher…
Because the Lord speaks in a still, small Voice.
Big talk’s goals are power and advancement. Its pretensions are pride and “puffery,” and its enemy is humility. On the other Hand,
Humility’s Champion is JESUS…
Who, from His lowly birth to His gruesome death, walked, preached, and modeled Life as a Servant!
Actors, models, and talent for Christ: 'Let another man praise you, and not your own mouth' (Proverbs 27:2). Therefore…
Avoid BIG talk & reject BIG talkers!!
'For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh' (2 Peter 2:18).
'A man who flatters his neighbor spreads a net for his feet' (Proverbs 29:5).
‘Know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!' (2 Timothy 3:1-5).
Remember: big talk is a two-way trap. Either action will trip your Christian walk:
Speaking it, or…
Believing it.
The no-fail way to escape and advance? 'Humble yourselves under the mighty Hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time' (1 Peter 5:6).

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
