Christian Pitfalls: American Idols

You shall have no other gods before Me.

Exodus 20:3 (ESV)

The idols of the nations are silver and gold, the work of human hands.

Psalm 135:15-18 (ESV)

Those who pay regard to vain idols forsake their hope of steadfast love.

Jonah 2:8 (ESV)

Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry…

1 Corinthians 10:14 (ESV)

Looking back at Moses in Exodus…

For forty long days, Moses left the children of Israel. He was on a mountain with his Father, and they didn't know when he would return. They grew impatient and tried to move on.

They wanted to follow different gods: the familiar ones they’d known in Egypt. Even Aaron joined in their mad desire, when he collected gold and made an idol.

Looking at Jesus and Christians TODAY...

For 2000 years, Jesus left the Christians He raised on Earth. He’s living in Heaven with His Father, and none of us know when He’s coming back. Some are impatient and choose to move on.

They’re following today’s cultural gods: the trending stars they see in media. Even pastors join in this mad desire and collect the “likes” that people worship.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

The United (?) States of America, this land of opportunity, stokes dreams– but not all dreams or dreamers are helpful. Some of them become glamorous showoffs– flaunting fame, wealth, “crowns” and celebrity.

But Christ says. 'No man can serve two masters' (Matthew 6:24).

Unlike scribes, Pharisees, and hypocrites, Jesus refused pinnacles of power, except one: a rugged Cross on a hill.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

  • Personally, embrace humility. (Make sure your pastor and your church do, too!)

  • Professionally, use entertainment as a modern means to attract lost sheep.

  • God allowed this field to grow for YOUR rise, as loving stars… leading to the True Star.

  • In this act, you deny idolatry in a marvelously effective way!

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players.’ Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
