Field Of Dreams: New York & Hollywood
For in the multitude of dreams and many words, there is also vanity. But fear God.
Ecclesiastes 5:7 (NKJV)
Their land is also full of idols; They worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made.
Isaiah 2:8 (NKJV)
Two cities claim the title, “field of dreams.”
'This is the city of dreamers--and time and again it's the place where the greatest dream of all, the American dream, has been tested and has triumphed' (Michael Bloomberg, former mayor of New York).
'Welcome to Hollywood! What's your dream? Everybody comes here; this is Hollywood, land of dreams' (Pretty Woman, closing lines).
In America, the world’s #1 exporter of dreams, fans DO “worship the work” of human hands: *
The hands of stylists, trainers, designers, photographers, cinematographers, producers, directors, and publicists: expert teams who sculpt and elevate stars…
To enthrall pumped-up, lined-up, paid-up fans.
Is God in this upward mobility? Actually, yes! God is everywhere, and He allowed the creation of these fields.
Isn’t Idol-worship strictly forbidden? Without a doubt, yes!
‘You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath… You shall not bow down to them or worship them’ (Exodus 20:3-5).
BUT…
As 'The prince of the power of the air' (Ephesians 2:2), distracts us, ARE WE REACHING HIGH ENOUGH?
The fireworks display we call media… keeps lighting the skies of entertainment, now launched from countless more cities and fields.
Christians complain (but watch behind closed doors.) Instead, we must rise…**
Actors, models, and talent for Christ: Bless you for entering these fields of dreams– with divinely inspired dreams of your own!
When you rise to God’s call, you conquer fear.
HOW?
God’s stars CAN’T BE overwhelmed by darkness. Instead, their light becomes MORE evident… as 'Death is swallowed up in victory' (1 Corinthians 15:54).

* The definition of “worship” is: “to regard with great or extravagant respect, honor, or devotion” (Merriam-Webster Dictionary).
** ‘Arise, shine; for your light has come,
And the glory of the Lord has risen upon you.
For behold, darkness will cover the earth,
And deep darkness the peoples;
But the Lord will rise upon you,
And His glory will appear upon you.
Nations will come to your light,
And kings to the brightness of your rising.’ (Isaiah 60:1-3)
NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
