The Bread Of Life: The Ask
So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
Luke 11:9-10 (NASB)
Our Provider is all about 'the ask.' Over and over, He tells us to ask.
Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full' (John 16:24).
'And whatever you ask in My Name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My Name, I will do it' (John 14:13-14).'
Since the Lord knows our thoughts, needs, and desires, why does He suggest or require 'the ask?'
Consider: When we ask help of the Almighty God, we acknowledge Him as the King of kings, the True Source of ALL power and blessings, the only One Who can truly save us.
We also acknowledge our helplessness. As a Man, Christ said: ‘I can of Myself, do nothing.’
Asking revolves around humility, communion, commitment, and boldness. Even more, 'ask' is an action verb, and we serve a Commander of ACTION: 'For the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost' (Luke 19:20).
In the Book of John is the story of the Samaritan woman at the well.* It starts with a bold request by Jesus to a woman Jews judged as unworthy. She responds: 'How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?' (John 4:9).
The amazing conversation moves on… when the woman asks her own bold request: 'Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw' (v.15). The conclusion of her ask? Salvation! (not just for herself, but also the town)
CONSIDER: This devotion’s first featured verse follows ‘The Parable of the Friend at Midnight’ (Luke 11:5-8)... which follows Christ’s instructions on prayer (Luke 11:1-4).
Take note of this orderly Book’s ORDER, and remember: they're ALL about THE ASK.
The Bread Of Life: The Ask (Part 9)
* I believe the story of the Samaritan woman at the well is a key to this age, as well as to the movement of actors, models and talent for Christ. It covers a lot of Bible geography--for a good reason. I suggest you re-read it and pray to God for revelation:

NOTE: This is a 2023 update of a 2013 Carey Lewis Devotion. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
