12 Steps To Heaven: The Starting Line
Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle?
Who may dwell in Your holy hill?
Psalm 15:1 (NKJV)
Before great runners hear the starting gun, they study and visualize the course.
For some, the goal is simply finishing.
For others, it’s the thrill of the challenge.
For many, it’s the glory of winning.
David stayed focused on a greater goal, and it wasn't to be a mighty king.
It wasn't to be a great musician, warrior, writer, hero, or husband.
It wasn't to be rich, handsome, famous– or even to unify Israel.
It wasn't to live in a big palace, ride a fast horse, or please the ‘right people.’
His goal was to live in Heaven with God.
It was to hear, obey, and please the Lord: a sweet and steady anthem in his life!
It was to seek God in times of trouble: a crucial reminder for believers!
It was to survive by God’s defense plan: a wise and flawless success strategy!
Did he also seek joy and fulfillment in the here and now? Yes, with one critical qualifier that most people (even believers) miss!
He sought fulfillment through God– not the world, because God holds the key to happiness.
Did David make some life-changing mistakes?
Yes. God shares his sins in tragic detail.
Was David punished?
Yes. David was punished in major ways.
But…
He never forgot the Starting Line (God) or the ultimate finish line (Heaven). He never forgot his glorious Coach or disrespected His key assistants (the prophets God sent).

Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings.
