Skeptics: The Good Kind

Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the Name of the Lord, she came to test him with hard questions.

1 Kings 10:1 (ESV)

The word 'skeptic' evolved from SKEPTICUS.* It used to mean… INQUIRING, REFLECTIVE. From that position, skepticism is good! The queen of Sheba tested Solomon with inquiring, reflective skepticism.

  • Was this king’s legendary wisdom real? IT WAS!

  • Could this pagan queen be a role model? SHE IS!**

  • Does God approve this type of questioning? HE DOES!

  • 'Test all things; hold fast what is good' (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

Habitually, stars of the Bible took their tough questions directly to God.

  • Job complained about his unfair treatment.

  • Abraham debated God for Sodom.

  • Jacob wrestled with God for a blessing.

  • Moses pleaded with God for His people.

  • Jeremiah accused God of deceit.

  • Habakkuk questioned God on everything.

  • David asked God about war strategies and (almost) every detail of his life.**

  • Mary showed the up-side of skepticism in her deep and prayerful reflections. 'Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart' (Luke 2:19).

As a Man, Jesus was questioned (and grilled), but no one EVER out-argues The Word.

Actors, models, and talent for Christ:

Expect questions from skeptical people. Some will be mean-mouthed, determined doubters.

But…

Others will be the ‘good kind’ of skeptic: kind people who will inquire and reflect upon your unusual behavior!

In either case:

'Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect' (1 Peter 3:15).

  • Don't be defensive. Don't be offensive.

  • Be sincere, and God will give you answers.

By your revolutionary conduct in the public fields of entertainment, some truth-seeking fans will come to believe in your revolutionary Savior.

Skeptics: The Good Kind (Part 2)

* From Latin scepticus "the sect of the Skeptics," from Greek skeptikos (plural Skeptikoi "the Skeptics, followers of Pyrrho"), noun use of adjective meaning "inquiring, reflective."

NOTE: God is my Ghostwriter. If what I write is good, it’s from God. You may see notes to 'Actors, Models & Talent for Christ.' If you think you're not in show business, think again. Shakespeare said, 'All the world's a stage and all its men and women merely players. Mostly true. But you're not merely players. You are messengers and ambassadors for the King of kings. This series is a re-write of a prior 2014 series.
